Last week, the first IFA themed breakfast was held at the beautiful Hotel Storchen. Interested participants can gain a good overview of a specific topic from the training program through a short presentation by the instructor.
Kanban
Nearly 20 interested participants not only enjoyed a delicious breakfast to start the day, but also received a brief overview of what Kanban means for knowledge work. The focus was primarily on the necessity of visualizing value streams . After all, only by seeing the work within one's work system can it be optimized.
Switching from one unfinished task to another makes us inefficient. This was demonstrated to participants through a small experiment on "working on multiple tasks." By limiting the amount of work in progress, we can focus on essential tasks and generate customer value more quickly. In practice, we often see that new work entering a system is automatically started, but then takes a very long time to complete. However, money is only earned by completing work; starting work primarily ties up resources and capital.
Optimize value stream
It's also important to understand that visualizing the process with a Kanban board and limiting the workload in our system won't solve the problems, but it will show us where improvements need to be made, allowing us to optimize the value stream in a targeted way. A Kanban board is therefore also a communication platform where board members meet to manage the value stream together.
Stop starting, start finishing.
After this brief introduction, the participants were able to ask the lecturer questions, which they did very well. Over coffee and croissants, this led to some exciting and interesting discussions.
