What organizational conditions influence the coachee for successful agile coaching?

We are not an island. Thankfully not. We are all immersed in our professional sphere, part of systems, and in constant interaction with various stakeholders. When an organization strives for change, this trigger affects the entire workforce. The nature of the change varies in scope and objective, ranging from the introduction of Kanban in individual teams to agile transformation according to SAFe and the implementation of DevOps teams. Can the organization's current stage in its agile journey be used to determine the necessity or relevance of agile coaching for teams or individuals? That's a fascinating question.

What organizational conditions influence the coachee for successful agile coaching?

You all know them. The small, local agile initiative that starts with just a few select teams, and the rest of the organization experiences only minimal adjustments. Or the large agile transformation that affects and changes the entire organization's way of working, and is accordingly accompanied by extensive training for all involved. What do these organizational changes have in common?

The impact is what matters! At its core, it's about people. People who are (re)orienting themselves and trying to understand and fulfill their (new) role and tasks to the best of their ability. They are constantly developing themselves to feel more comfortable in their role and, as a result, to be able to contribute even more effectively to the benefit of the organization.

For me, this is the key insight. Every single person I've met in agile teams is characterized by a strong service-oriented mindset and a high sense of responsibility. At the same time, they face immense demands in their daily work, with challenging tasks and diverse expectations from stakeholders within the organization. This is accompanied by a limited amount of energy and resources. Therefore, the principle is: if every individual on the team is doing well, the team is doing well. If the team, as the smallest unit of an organization, is doing well, the entire organization is doing well. Many healthy cells are what make a healthy and high-performing organism. This is my deepest conviction. And everyone has a responsibility to contribute to it.

Therefore, I see no specific requirements on the part of the organization that must be met for a coachee. The benefit for the coachee is always present. However, the content of the coaching can certainly vary and have a different focus.

What is your opinion? What prerequisites do you know of for an organization to implement successful agile coaching?
