There are many agile coaches. It's not difficult to find one. They all bring a wealth of experience, skills, and personality. For those seeking coaching, the question arises: what is the focus? What does a coachee consider important and indispensable in an agile coach? How can the right coach be identified? What are the key success factors for the agile coach to achieve the desired results?
My top priority is professional credibility. This is reflected in concrete experience – both as a coach and in the direct performance of various relevant roles. This allows me to offer a comprehensive and nuanced perspective on challenges and potential solutions.
Secondly, I see the Agile Coach's fundamental attitude and the ability to collaborate based on trust and equality. I like to use the Scrum values for this: Commitment – I commit to giving my best and contributing to success. Focus – I focus on the task and the desired outcome. Openness – I approach the conversation with an open mind and an open ear. Respect – I conduct the collaboration respectfully and mindfully. Courage – I show my true colors and contribute unexpected ideas.
Thirdly, for me, is the joint clarification of expectations and goals. In the initial conversation, the Agile Coach must be able to define a clear starting point and the next part of the journey together with the coachee. Metaphorically speaking, everything must feel coherent and clear to the coachee before they board the Ferris wheel. This applies equally to the Agile Coach, even if it's just for the first round. Further iterations and rounds can follow.
