May 18, 2018 / Patrick Steiger: Today, the 1st European Business Analysis Day took place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany . To include non-German-speaking professionals, the entire event was held in English. Approximately 100 interested participants made their way to Eschborn near Frankfurt. The event was very successful and

WELCOME BY THE TWO ORGANIZERS RAINER WENDT AND SABINE OSTLENDER.
Professionally organized. All three parallel events were held in adjacent rooms
The event was held in several rooms, making it compact. Delicious food and a beautiful terrace with views of the surrounding greenery and the Frankfurt skyline in the distance provided ideal conditions for learning, networking, and feeling comfortable.
The day before, a "Design Thinking" training session served as a warm-up. Stefan Marc Wagner successfully guided the 25 participants, who were divided into four groups each with their own coach, through all six steps of the design process within a single day

To introduce the Thinking approach, using a real problem posed by the deputy manager of the conference hotel: The shapes of the hotel experience in the age of digitalization.
It was amazing how productively the teams progressed and, after the first phase 'Understanding', had already filled the room with Post-it notes documenting everything related to the hotel:

After interviewing a real guest and a representative from Mercure Hotel management, there was no stopping the teams, and they created personas, "how-might-we" questions, and finally a concrete prototype. At 5:30 p.m., we were able to present four innovative proposals to the client at the hotel, which amazed both them and ourselves. Besides the valuable learning experience, it was a lot of fun…
Today's conference had three parallel tracks: Agile Analysis, Customer Experience, and Business Processes. I focused on the first track. Below are two interesting images I took away. First, a classification of projects that are more suitable for an agile approach and those that are less suitable (source: G. Adamik, H. Kichouhi from Uniper):

And here's a further explanation of the terms related to the buzzword "digitalization": Dr. Kim Lauenroth presented the historical development from digitization via digitalization to digital transformation and then, in his presentation, derived the need for a new professional profile, the "Digital Designer" (analogous to the industrial designer). I will have the pleasure of working with him and other colleagues within the IREB to refine this professional profile and develop a certification for it.

Note: The next (2nd) European Business Analysis Day will take place on May 17, 2019, again in Frankfurt am Main.
